Upcoming BNA meeting: presentation from the Racial Restrictive Covenants Project

Hi Briarcrest Neighbors…
Did you know that many property deeds in Shoreline have historically contained racially restrictive language? The Supreme Court even validated this practice in a 1926 decision. At this Tuesday’s Briarcrest Neighborhood Association meeting, we’ll hear from the Racial Restrictive Covenants Project at the University of Washington, an organization that researches Washington State property titles to find racially restrictive language that hasn’t yet been removed.
Join us for an informative conversation and an opportunity to participate in this important work. The first half of the presentation (Tuesday, January 10th at 7:30 pm)  will discuss the history and lingering presence of racially restrictive real estate covenants in Washington. The second half (Tuesday, February 14th at 7:30 pm) will teach attendees how they can help search out racially restrictive covenants that are still in existence in Washington.
